What is Welcome Week?
Welcome Week is your official introduction to life at Kühne Logistics University (KLU)! Welcome Week takes place the week before classes and is designed to help you:

- Meet your community: Connect with fellow students, faculty, and staff who will support you throughout your academic journey.

What to bring on your first day
Please bring your laptop and mobile device with you on your first day. During the IT Info Session, our IT department will assist you with the login to our portals, installation of the mobile calendar, WiFi configuration, etc.
Arriving after September 1st means missing out on Welcome Week, which includes essential introductory events and meet-and-greet activities. These are key opportunities to familiarize yourself with the campus and start building connections with your peers.
Participation in Welcome Week is mandatory, and it is when much of the group bonding occurs. Many students who missed Welcome Week have told us that they struggled to fully integrate with classmates throughout their studies.
It is essential to be on campus in Germany from the start, as our program begins with in-person classes, and KLU does not offer an online option for the first semester.
The semester at KLU runs from September to January, with some courses offered only in specific quarters. This means that the first set of courses wraps up by the end of October. Missing even a few weeks can mean missing entire courses, and the set curriculum doesn’t allow for make-up opportunities.
In exceptional cases, we can extend your arrival deadline to October 1. However, if arriving by then is still not feasible, don't worry - your admission will be valid for the following year.- Overview: This session prepares you for KLU’s international environment and provides insight into the academic culture in Germany.
- Activities: Work in diverse groups to solve exercises and gain perspective on studying in a multicultural setting.
2. Teambuilding
- Overview: Get to know your classmates and foster a sense of community in a fun, interactive setting.
- Activities: Participate in group activities that promote collaboration and bonding.
3. Optional events and exploring Hamburg
Throughout Welcome Week, we are also offering optional events to help you discover KLU’s surroundings and the city of Hamburg. You will receive information on how to sign up in the orientation app in August. Spaces are limited, so sign up early!
- Note: While optional, each event has limited availability, so it is first-come, first-served. If an event is full, consider checking for similar sessions on different days.
- Participation: All Welcome Week activities are free, and your registration for events is binding. Should you need to cancel due to unavoidable reasons, please inform us in advance. No-shows without prior notice may incur a ticket charge.
- Student tutors: Each event will have a student tutor to guide you and answer questions, giving you firsthand insights into life at KLU.
Dress code Welcome Week
- The dress code for your Welcome Day (first day of the Welcome Week) is business casual. If you are not sure about the dress
code you may check dress code or inquire with current KLU students via the KLU students Facebook

- The dress code for all other days of the Welcome Week is informal wear/casual.
Dress code lecture week
You will need formal as well as informal clothes for your studies at KLU. A normal lecture day at KLU is casual, some events are business casual, others like the graduation ceremony are business formal.
If you do not wish to be photographed or recorded, a designated Photo-free zone is available and clearly marked with a sign. We kindly ask that you remain in this area if you prefer not to be captured on camera.

this session is mandatory for everyone.

Please indicate your request as an IT ticket in the subject line and already
state the topic of your request.
If you start your PhD prgram in September you will have your own Welcome Day organized by the PhD Program Management.
MBA students
You will have your own Welcome Day and will start on a different date. You will be informed in time by our MBA program coordinators about the exact schedule for MBA students.
The student ID card is issued on the first day on campus, but only if enrollment is fully completed. This means students need to finalize their enrollment and provide any required documents before receiving their card.
Your student ID card is an essential tool for students, serving a variety of purposes both on and off campus. Outside the university, it can be used to verify student status, granting access to discounts at a range of shops, restaurants or cinemas.
