Erasmus+
The Erasmus Programme for students, part of the broader Erasmus+ initiative, enables students in higher education to study or undertake internships abroad in participating European countries. It offers grants to help cover travel and living costs, providing opportunities to experience different cultures, improve language skills, and gain a global perspective. Typically lasting from three months to a full academic year, the programme aims to enhance personal development, academic performance, and employability by fostering international experience and intercultural understanding.
KLU is currently funding Student Mobility for Studies, Student Mobility for Training and PhD mobilities.
The International Office offers regular information events for students interested in an Erasmus+ mobility.

Key aspects of the programme
The main goal of the Programme is to foster lifelong learning, helping students and people across Europe (and beyond!) grow in their education, careers, and personal lives. By doing this, it aims to create sustainable growth, quality job opportunities, and a more connected society, while sparking innovation and building a strong European identity. This Programme is a gateway to becoming an active citizen and a key player in shaping the future of Europe.

Erasmus+ Financing
Students can receive Erasmus+ funding if they wish to study in one of the 33 participating programme countries. They must be enrolled at a German university with an Erasmus+ charter. There must also be an Erasmus+ cooperation agreement between the home university and the host university.

The financial support for ERASMUS stays by students is based on the different costs of living in the destination countries and is redefined by the DAAD each year. The following funding rates are therefore intended as a guide. The scholarship amount for students is determined on the basis of the information they provide on the duration of their stay in the Mobility Online system and the available budget.
The amounts stated below represent the current Erasmus+ KA131 Call 2024.

Neighbouring countries - 4 travel days | 72-80€
Other countries - 6 travel days | 108-120€
Erasmus+ Traineeship
Traineeship institutions
All students who wish to complete a traineeship in a company or organisation in one of the 33 programme countries (not in the country of their nationality) have the opportunity to apply for an Erasmus+ traineeship.
Traineeships at european institutions and organisations, national diplomatic representations and organisations managing EU programmes are not eligible for funding.
Duration
The minimum period of the Erasmus+ traineeship is 2 months.
If the period is longer, the International Office reserves the right to provide funding with Zero Grant days - depending on the funds available.
Traineeship Top-Up - 150€ per month
On top of the base amount stated above per country group, students doing an internship receive this Top-Up. It can be combined with a social Top-Up and the Green Travel Top-Up.
Due to the specific deadlines of the funding organisation, the funding amount can only be paid out after the stay. For this it is mandatory to complete the EU-KOM survey.
Application process
The application period runs from 1 April to 15 June.
Access to the application portal will be sent to interested students by email.
In the allocation process, students who have not yet received Erasmus+ funding during their semester abroad (in the same study cycle) will be considered first. Furthermore, students who receive no or only low internship earnings will be considered first.
The application documents are reviewed by Career Services in cooperation with the International Office.
When you have been accepted for an Erasmus+ traineeship we will provide you with all of the necessary documents - especially the Erasmus+ traineeship contract providing a stable foundation for your stay abroad.

PhD mobility
PhDs interested in an Erasmus+ mobility have the opportunity to do so within the traineeship framework.
They can apply at any university, organisation or company within one of the 33 programme countries (but not in the country of their nationality). Mobilities to european institutions and organisations, national diplomatic representations and organisations managing EU programmes are not eligible for funding.
